Many of the children in Haiti have the cholera epidemic, a disease that has taken over 135 lives and infected over 1,500 people. Cholera infects the intestines and causes severe dehydration. Cholera is most likely spread in places with poor water treatment, sanitation, and hygiene. A person can get cholera by eating food or drinking water contaminated with the cholera bacterium. Some symptoms of cholera is profuse diarrhea, vomiting, and leg cramps. Without fluid replacement, death can occur very rapidly. |
